Requirements &Eligibility for UK Ancestry Visa

To be considered under this Visa category, you must:

  • Be over the age of 17
  • A Commonwealth Citizen;
  • Your grandparent was born in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or a British registered Ship
  • That Grandparent is a blood Grandparent or a Grandparent by way of an Adoption recognised under UK laws relating to adoption.
  • Be able to financially maintain yourself in the UK

What Documents are needed for a UK Ancestry Visa

Below are the type of documents that would be needed for a UK Ancestry Visa. The list is not definitive as you may need more documents depending on your particular circumstances. You should therefore look to provide the following:

  • Your Passport
  • Your Birth Certificate, your Parent’s Birth Certificate and your Grand Parent’s Birth Certificate

UK Ancestry Visa FAQ’s

1. How long will the Visa be valid for?

You will be granted an initial visa of 5 years after which you will be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain, as long as you meet the requirements.

You are free to work and study in the UK on this Visa.

This varies on a case by case basis. The Home Office however aim to conclude applications within 12 weeks.

Your Partner and Children would be eligible to apply as your dependents.

The fee payable to the Home Office is £516. The Immigration Health Surcharge is also payable.

No, you must apply from outside the UK.
